DHL Go Green

DHL Go Green

A big fat zero by 2050

The ambitious emissions pledge of DHL, Afterglow’s courier of choice.

DHL, Afterglow’s preferred mail and logistics company, has committed to reducing its group’s net contribution to global air pollution, greenhouse gases and other emissions to zero by 2050.

Afterglow’s logistics partner of choice.

Afterglow are ecstatic to be partnering with DHL as our number one choice to deliver our innovative, sustainable gym wear to your door.

Whenever you buy one of our products and select the DHL 'Go Green' option, DHL will offset all of the emissions incurred in the delivery by purchasing the equivalent in carbon credits on your behalf.

Burn Less, Burn Clean

This is just one of many eco-friendly initiatives implemented by the logistics company. As far back as 2008, DHL pledged to reduce their overall emissions from their 2007 baseline.

Thanks to their strategic approach, and numerous measures developed and implemented as part of their Go Green programme, in 2016 they beat their first target – a 30% reduction by 2020 – by four years.

"‘Burn Clean’ is where the real progress of DHL’s Go Green programme comes in. As you might expect, this involves the adoption of greener energy sources and fuels, such as electric vehicles like their own Street Scooters, for pickups and deliveries."

The company now has its sights set on its next goal: a 50% reduction by 2025. To reach this equally ambitious target, DHL are guided by two principles. The first is ‘Burn Less’, which means that though they will use the same energy sources for their deliveries etc, such as fossil fuels, they will strive to use less of them.

The second, ‘Burn Clean’ is where the real progress of their Go Green programme comes in. As you might expect, this involves the adoption of greener energy sources and fuels, such as electric vehicles like their own Street Scooters, for pickups and deliveries.

Eco-friendly Initiatives

DHL’s 2025 emissions reduction targets are to be realised through the following metrics:

50% increase in carbon efficiency over 2007 levels, which will set a new benchmark in the global logistics industry.

DHL aims to operate 70% of their own first and last mile services with clean pick-up and delivery solutions, such as bicycles and electric vehicles by 2025.

By 2025, DHL wants to offer more than 50% of its customized logistics supply chains solutions as sustainable, in order to make their customers’ supply chains greener and help them hit their own environmental and climate protection targets.

By 2025, DHL aims to train 80% of their employees to become certified GoGreen specialists and to actively involve them in their environmental and climate protection activities, including joining partners to plant one million trees each year.

Sustainable Partnerships

DHL are also involving their customers and logistics partners in their optimisation process, working together to create greener and more efficient logistics processes at the regional, trans regional and global level.

They also partner with technology partners and participate in various initiatives, as well as their own innovative solutions, providing a wealth of experience and know-how in all areas of green logistics.

This includes assisting customers with Carbon Reports that identify the emissions generated by their logistics chain and the provision of Climate Neutral Products that facilitate the offsetting of unavoidable emissions through international certified climate protection projects.

It also includes DHLs Green Optimisation, which is a customised solution to help customers identify ways to reduce emissions, waste and other impacts on the environment.

“We have set ambitious milestones along the way that cover all aspects of our business and our impact on the environment,” says Frank Appel, Chief Executive Officer Deutsche Post DHL Group. “We will do everything in our power to reach our new climate protection target.”

That’s the kind of commitment to the planet we want to hear at Afterglow.
